| June 2005 We are still enjoying continued success in the show ring with Leonard and Classic. For the THIRD straight year in a row, Leonard has qualified Classic in Senior Heading for the 2005 AQHA World Championship Show. This still amazes me, since Leonard has only shownClassic since early 2002, (and remeber Classic was broke to ride at the late age of 4) prior to him being with Leonard and was trained to rope for the first time with Leonard in 2002. November 2004 Leonard once again had Classic qualified for the AQHA World SHow, however, luck was not on our side and we did not make it to the finals this year... tThere is always next year, though!!!! December 2003 TOP 10 at the 2003 AQHA World Championship Show !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Watch out for Leonard and Classic in Heading, Heeling and Calf Roping in 2004 ...................................................................................................................................... November 2003 Well, we made it!! Leonard qualified Classic for the AQHA World Champiionship Show in both Senior Heading and Senior Heeling. We made it to the finals in Senior Heading, and went on to the TOP 10 with a 7th place finsih in Senior Heading. Wow! What a head rush! This stallion has certainly proved himself to be cow worthy, and in such a short period of time, showing aginst all these aged seasoned horses. We truly believe the skys the limit with Classic. Leonard will be campagning him in 2004 in Heading, Heeling and Calf Roping, and then in 2005 in Heading, Heeling, Calf Roping, Working Cow Horse and Reining. We cannot wait for Classic babies to start hitting the show ring, so we can see what they will accomplish. Keep tuned in for more Classic news.......................................................... April 2003 As of April 6th, 2003 Classic qualified for the 2003 AQHA World Championship Show in Senior Heeling, along with earning an ROM in Performance. Quite a feat for this stallion who has only been shown in roping since July of 2002, and has only trained in Heeling since April of 2002. Classic was broke out to ride late at the ripe old age of 4, so showing at new events and competing and WINNING in his senior years with other seniors who have been doing this for many, many years is quite an accomplishment. I truly believe that he has found his calling. Much gratitude and thanks goes to Leonard Berryhill, who has taken this stallion and brought out his strengths and has only complimented his athletic abilities. They will be going on to other events, such as heading and calf roping. So keep a close watch On Classic and Leonard as the months go by ............ September 2002 I bought Classic in the winter of 1997 from Pat Lemmon of Wylie, Texas. I had my eye on this fantastic stallion since he was a yearling, and was hoping that one day that I would own him. He was round & fat, had a gorgeous head and hip, and was full of personality. Pat Lemmon is a longtime Quarter Horse breeder and shower. She still shows today and has several horses in the AQHA World Show this year. She owned Classic's dam, Roxana Lee until her death a couple of years ago. Pat bred her mare to Concention in 1994 and the result was an awesome bay stud colt, born April 29th, 1995, whom she named Classic Concention. Pat keeps tabs on Classic and even has a scrapbook of his accomplishments. Classic was shown exclusively at halter, with David Fry, until he was 5 years old. Although short in stature for halter, he won due to his tremendous conformation. He has earned the ROM in Open Halter, and is 1/2 point away from the ROM in Amateur Halter. We won several Grand Champion and multiple Reserve Grand Champion titles along with six circuit championships in halter. Classic qualified for the 1999 AQHA World Show in both Open and Amateur Aged Stallions. As a late 4 year old, I had Classic broke out to ride. Yes, I know, quite late in life for a show horse. I showed him in Amateur Western Pleasure and although we did not do too badly, Classic just happens to be built like a cow horse. I decided to check into more appropriate training for him, and in late December of 2001, I placed him with Leonard Berryhill of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. I gave Leonard the go ahead to do any event that he thought Classic would excel at. Leonard is well known for showing and winning in Western Pleasure, Western Riding and the Cow Events. He and his wife, Leigh, show Quarter Horses and Palominos. They also have several youths that show under their guidance. Leonard recently showed and won with Biggest, ER Hot Chex , MWS Ima Flashy Zipper, and Bueno Starlight at the 2002 PHBA World Show. At the 2001 AQHA World Show, Leonard placed 9th in Senior Western Pleasure with Lopin Leaguer, 3rd in Senior Calf Roping with Better Than The Rest, 5th in Senior Western Riding with Serious Distraction and in the same class, 7th with Lopin Leaguer.. In July of 2002, Leonard first showed Classic in Senior Heeling at the Tulsa Holiday Circuit. We didn't gain any points, but Classic started to show his great promise as a cow horse. On the last day of the show, we did get in the jackpot winnings. In August 2002, Leonard hauled Classic up to the "Almost Free" Quarter Horse Show in Lincoln, Nebraska. He came home with a 3rd and 4th place out of 39 horses, and 9 points. We are heading toward an ROM in Performance, and only 16 points away from being qualified for the 2003 AQHA World Show. Leonard has plans for him to be a 3 event horse by spring of 2003. He also swears up and down that he is going to teach me how to calf rope, but I am thinking that breakaway roping will be more my style. No jumping off horses for me! After having some very, and I do mean very, bad run-ins with some awful trainers, I was blessed with Leonard Berryhill. I give many, many thanks to David Fry, who gave me Leonard's name to begin with. It is really amazing what a really good trainer can do with a performance prospect. I am tremendously pleased with Leonard and how he has taken this horse and turned him into quite an athletic fellow, and how shows quite a bit of promise to come. My plans for Classic in the future are to get him qualified for the AQHA World Show in performance events, and also to continue to breed him to outside mares. Classic has shown that he can produce outstanding offspring, and when those kiddos grow up, you will see more of his performance background in the show ring. |
